Sandesam was released in 1991 just 1 year after Wałęsa was elected president. Wałęsa lost the subsequent elections of 1995 to Democratic Left Alliance leader Aleksander Kwaśniewski. Kwaśniewski was successful in enacting a new constitution for Poland and bringing in strong reforms which Wałęsa failed to do. Kwaśniewski still holds the title of the all time favorite Polish president.[1]
