ശോഭ ചിരിക്കുന്നില്ലേ (manglish: shobha chirikkunnille) has its origin from the movie Vadakkunokkiyantram.

But Srinivasan's character does not actually utter this phrase in the film. The phrase actually originated from a troll/meme on the internet. It was first identified separately through this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Kerala/comments/tawegm/sobha_chirikkunnille_a_mandela_effect/

Sreenivasan's famous "ഹോട്ടലാണെന്ന് കരുതി ബാർബർ ഷോപ്പിൽ കയറിയ വൃദ്ധൻ" joke is also in this same scene.

Usage

This expression is used when no one laughs after telling a joke.

First person: An old man entered a barber shop thinking that it was a hotel, "What's on the menu?", "Cutting and shaving", "Give me two plates" hahaha

(On seeing that the second is not laughing), first person: Is Shobha not laughing?
